Chance is also evident in the fusion of fire, paper, light and shadow in Luminaries. To explore chance letterforms, I removed
the shapes A-Z from white paper bags. The bags serve as typographic objects. Letterforms were created from negative space and fashioned from a single stroke, rendering large counters. The constructed bags were placed in nature with candles inside. Once lit, the light radiated through the cut letterforms and created a yellow halo around the bag and ground. The folds and angles of the bag shifted the consistent letterforms altering their appearance. To document the evening glow, a tripod and camera were used. Long shutter speeds and a steady hand captured the warm glow.
