Another entropic experiment is Burntype a byproduct of another experiment, Luminaries. Paper letters were placed on a clip and ignited at the top, illuminating for a few seconds and turning from white to char. Narrow letters, such as “I” and “L”, burned straight down, while wide letters, such as “M” and “E”, quickly were ignited over the entire width. The yellow bright flame and blue center were beautiful to watch against the dark char line as the letter slowly disappeared. I photographed the burn through time-lapse capture for the duration of the short ten second burn. The most beautiful forms were created a few seconds into the burn sequence, when most of the white contour was intact, highlighted by flame.
