As a result of the many chaotic typographic experiments, a full typeface family was created, Blackstitch. The beautiful domino scatters, luminary units, eroded burning, and drippy meltings were all reduced to more simplistic geometric forms. Thus the idea for Blackstitch emerged. It is a synthesis of various black letter styles, cross stitch samplers, and technology. Elemental square units inspired from chaotic type experiments form the building blocks of Blackstitch. Both traditional black letter and cross stitch challenge contemporary letterform recognition. Black letter challenges today’s common letter structure, and cross-stitch recognizes the challenge of applying traditionally curved letters to the grid. Blackstitch serves to offer designers a modular typeface with historical and contemporary relevance, chaotic, yet organized.

Blackstitch is a display type family containing upper and lower case, in regular, bold, and dot weights with a special border-stitch weight. Blackstitch is used ideally at large sizes, 24pts and up, but creates unique textures at smaller sizes. The modularity of the face allows for ornamental experimentation. This grants designers endless creative possibilities. Historic, yet modern, linear, yet organic; Blackstitch offers unique dichotomous characteristics perfect for many quirky design solutions.
